Press Release - April 2011

The AGM of the Bournemouth & District Law Society took place on 18 April 2011 at the Italian Villa, Compton Acres, Poole.

The Society has a membership of over 550 solicitors and is one of the largest provincial law societies in the country.   The Society elected Coles Miller conveyancing partner Fiona Knight as its' President for the forthcoming year.   Fiona takes over from Tim O'Sullivan of the Crown Prosecution Service who inhanding over the Presidency reflected on the high regard in which the Society is held by the national Law Society in Chancery Lane, London.

Upon accepting the role Fiona Knight stated that as her theme for the Presidency she would be looking to broaden links between her profession and the traditional allied professions with a view to even greater onward cooperation for the benefit of clients and working arrangement generally.   A number of social events have been planned and are proposed to endeavour to achieve this aim throughout her year. Bournemouth & District Law Society Annual Dinner

The Annual Dinner took place at the Royal Bath Hotel on 1 April 2011. Local Law Society President, Mr Tim O'Sullivan, welcomed the guests including the Chief Constable of Dorset Police and reported that the Law Society had enjoyed a successful year.l He said that 90% of local solicitors are members of the Society.

The guests speaker was Edward Garner QC MP who was appointed in 2010 HM Solicitor General in the coalition Government.  (4411)
