Associate membership: Legal Executives, Notaries, Barristers, Fee Earners, Licensed Conveyancers and anyone else who is an authorised person under the Legal Services Act
Public Sector membership CPS, Council, Police.
Concessions:  Solicitors qualified under 5 years, retired and unemployed

 

At the Bournemouth and District Law Society (BDLS), we pride ourselves on being a welcoming and inclusive community for legal professionals at all stages of their careers. We also serve as a strong collective voice for the legal profession in our region, advocating on matters that affect our members and the wider legal landscape.

If you are a Solicitor member, your details will be included in the solicitor search section of our website. This allows the public to search by surname, firm name, location and area of specialisation.

Professional Development

Social Events

The Society holds a variety of events including our prestigious Annual Lunch and Annual Dinner, Wine Tasting Evening, Summer Barbecue, a Quiz and a President’s social event annually.

 

Networking Opportunities

BDLS runs a variety of networking events including Managing Partners meetings and an annual drinks reception for Newly Qualified/Trainee Solicitors/CILEX

 

Bournemouth Lawyer Magazine

BDLS Magazine emailed to members quarterly. This includes details of forthcoming events, reports on past events, a job section, news about member firms and many other interesting articles.

Sub-Committees

BDLS runs a Litigation & Dispute Resolution, a Property Group, Lectures and Private Client Group Sub-Committees.  They meet regularly to monitor developments in these areas of law and inform our membership accordingly.  Standard membership enables members to be eligible to sit on the various sub-committees run by the Society, to have an input in the running of the local society and to express views on matters referred to us by the Law Society of England & Wales.

 

Representation

BDLS provides a strong collective voice for the local legal community. We advocate on matters that affect our members and the profession more broadly, ensuring your concerns are heard and represented at a wider level.

 

European Conference
Each year, our Society organises a European trip, offering members the chance to explore vibrant cities and experience different cultures. Past destinations have included Reykjavik, Rome, Berlin, Palma, St. Petersburg, Barcelona,Amsterdam, Prague, Venice, Istanbul, Paris, Helsinki, Krakow, Kiev,and Copenhagen

 

Bournemouth & District Junior Lawyers Division (BDJLD)

Membership of BDJLD is open to all enrolled students, trainee solicitors, newly qualified solicitors and those in active practice for up to five years post-qualification. There is no age limit for joining. BDJLD hosts its own events, including lectures, and a separate subscription is required for membership.

 

If you are interested in joining, please complete and return the Application Form which will then be put before the General Committee at their next meeting for approval. Please note that you do not need to send your subscription with the application form - we will invoice you after your membership is approved.
