Senior Associate Solicitor – Private Client
Lymington | Scott Bailey LLP
Are you looking to join a well-established firm with a strong, long-standing and growing client base and a team people genuinely enjoy being part of?
For someone already operating at a senior level, this is an opportunity to join a well-regarded private client team as a key support to the Partner — leading on complex matters, sharing responsibility for more challenging work, and bringing their experience to support colleagues across the wider team.
Our Private Client team is trusted for its technical expertise and known for its thoughtful, personal approach. We advise individuals, families and business owners on complex and often sensitive matters, with a strong focus on professionalism, discretion and long-term client relationships.
You will take on a key role within the team, working closely with the Partner and contributing to the department’s ongoing growth and development.
The role:
You will manage a varied, high-quality private client caseload, including:
-
Wills, trusts and estate planning, including powers of attorney
-
Probate and multi-generational estate administration
-
Trust administration and advice to trustees and beneficiaries
-
Tax planning, including inheritance tax mitigation
-
Long-term client care, capacity matters and Court of Protection work
Alongside your own work, you will lead client relationships on more complex matters and ensure matters continue to progress appropriately, even where they become more involved.
You will work closely with colleagues across the team, acting as a sounding board on more complex or unfamiliar matters.
You will play a part in the continued development of the department through effective management of your work, building client relationships and identifying opportunities where they arise.
There is a clear structure for progression within the firm, with scope over time to take on broader responsibilities as the department continues to grow.
About you:
We are looking for someone who brings:
-
Experience handling a broad range of matters, including complex and sensitive cases
-
Confidence leading complex matters independently and advising clients with a clear, practical approach
-
Sound judgement and the ability to identify and manage risk appropriately
-
Strong client handling skills, with empathy, discretion and professionalism
-
Experience supporting and mentoring junior colleagues
-
Commercial awareness and an interest in developing client relationships and contributing to the growth of the department.
-
The ability to manage competing priorities and maintain high standards in a busy team environment
This role would suit someone already operating at Senior Associate level within a private client team, or a strong, highly experienced Associate ready to step into a more senior position. While this is likely to align with someone with around 8–10 years’ PQE, we are more interested in how you work and the level at which you are operating than a specific number of years. STEP qualification is desirable.
Location and working approach:
The role is based at our Lymington High Street office. We are a local firm and many of our clients value personal, face-to-face contact, so regular office presence and in-person collaboration remain an important part of how we work.
At the same time, we are happy to discuss hybrid working arrangements. We have a remote working policy in place, and some home working already operates within the team. We take a practical, sensible approach to finding a balance that works.
What we offer:
Scott Bailey LLP offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including 34 days’ holiday (including bank holidays) plus a birthday day off, a Health Cash Plan, Group Life Cover and pension, along with access to a staff discount platform, free parking and refreshments, and regular social events. This sits alongside award-winning training and development and a genuinely supportive and friendly working environment.
Scott Bailey LLP is a well-established and highly regarded law firm, recognised for its commitment to people, quality and progress. The firm was awarded Financial and Professional Services Company of the Year at the 2025 Hampshire Business Awards and was shortlisted in multiple categories, including SME Business of the Year and Best Place to Work. We were also proud to receive the Training and Development Award at the New Forest Brilliance in Business Awards and are shortlisted for Employer of the Year at the 2026 Central South Business Awards.
If this role appeals to you, please send your CV and a covering letter directly to Lyn Burley at .
If you would like to have an informal conversation before applying, please feel free to contact Lyn directly.
